Job Context:
∎ JOB PURPOSE: Responsible for evaluation of issues on regulatory and legal operating environment, including anti-money laundering (AML) and combating financing terrorism (CFT) legal and regulatory compliance, and work proactively to preserve adherence to law and internal policies.
∎ SAFEGUARDING RESPONSIBILITIES:
∎ Ensure the safety of team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation to achieve the programme`s goals on safeguarding implementation. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.
∎ Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action.
∎ Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place, encourage others to do so.

Job Responsibilities:
∎ Draft, review, conduct legal research, prepare memorandum and give opinions on legal, regulatory and internal policy/procedure compliance matters (including employment issues) and internal organizational documents, identifying potential risks, assessing the issues impacting risks and possible mitigations.
∎ Manage, support, develop, review, monitor and implement systems, processes policies and procedures for anti-money laundering (AML) and combating financing terrorism (CFT) legal and regulatory compliance, data protection controller functions, and any other compliance function, in adherence to law and internal policies.
∎ Liaise with and monitor compliance matters referred to external legal counsel and consultants; ensure payment of professional bills, for legal, regulatory and internal policy/procedure compliance matters (including employment issues).
∎ Perform legal claims and litigation assessments, operation/maintenance of CaseHub (online litigation database), and compliance related tasks.
∎ Develop, review and update the organizational policies, procedures and other documents regularly and as necessary. Analyze report on and implement response to legal and regulatory changes. Design and conduct compliance related trainings.
∎ Collaborate and work with senior and departmental leadership in identifying, reducing and mitigating potential or actual compliance risks related to law and internal policies.
∎ Review and give opinions on proposals, policies and other documents on legal, regulatory and internal policy/procedure compliance matters, balanced against organizational mission and strategy, and with proactive measures and approaches to reduce legal exposure and legal risks, and optimal protection of legal interests.
∎ Supervise and maintain circulation by litigation staff of updates in relevant laws, internal organizational documents and legal developments, within the department.
∎ Visit tribunals, courts, arbitration, govt. offices, law chambers, other BRAC offices, enterprises, and other places for performance of tasks, as needed.
∎ Provide reports on a regular basis and as directed or requested, to keep department managers informed regarding progress of documentation reviews and tasks assigned.

Additional Requirements:
∎ Understands the different demands of a law department role versus an external lawyer role.
∎ Good knowledge of legal system, sources of laws, commercial laws and remedies in Bangladesh.
∎ Sound knowledge of litigation, dispute resolution processes and civil/criminal remedies in Bangladesh.
∎ Excellent in assessment/mitigation of legal/regulatory risks, reputational/ethical issues.
∎ Good drafting and review skills in legal documentation, correspondence and documents in general, with attention to detail.
∎ Self-directed, highly adaptable and flexible, proactively prioritize workloads, handle multiple simultaneous tasks and maintain operational efficiency.
∎ Implement initiatives and processes in order to set standards and reinforce a culture of integrity, quality, ethical behavior and responsibility across teams in the department.
∎ Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and Bangla.
∎ Minimum 3 years' of working experience in relevant field is required
