Company Name: USAID Bangladesh

Vacancy: 01

Job Location: Dhaka

Employment Status: Full-time

Educational Requirements:
∎ A Bachelor’s degree is required in social studies, development studies, economics, sociology, gender studies, anthropology, and/or political science

Experience Requirements:
∎ At least 5 year(s)

Job Responsibilities:
∎ A. GENERAL STATEMENT OF PURPOSE OF THE CONTRACT
∎ The gender project management specialist serves as a senior professional for USAID/Bangladesh. S/he is responsible for advancing USAID’s goal of increased participation of women and girls in Bangladeshi society through gender-sensitive project designs and programming as prescribed in the Mission’s Country Development Cooperation Strategy (CDCS). USAID/Bangladesh’s CDCS is focused on the improved inclusion and integration of women, youth, and historically underserved and underrepresented populations across sectors and their ability to meaningfully participate in the economy through intentional programming.
∎ Bangladesh’s social and economic gender gap remains high. Sociocultural norms and practices, including high rates of violence against women and girls, underage marriage, gender-based violence (GBV), and trafficking in persons are formidable barriers to women’s wellbeing and productive participation in society. Furthermore, attitudes around women’s roles and responsibilities hinder their autonomy and ability to pursue employment outside the home. Improving women’s social and economic opportunities and empowerment requires a holistic and cross sectoral approach within USAID/Bangladesh’s portfolio.
∎ Promoting gender equality is an integral part of USAID/Bangladesh programs and thus requires that it be adequately addressed at the design, implementation, and evaluation stages. The Gender Specialist will support the Mission in all aspects of project and activity design, planning, and implementation, as well as reporting and learning. The Gender Specialist will be expected to work on gender issues across all sectors to achieve holistic and effective programming results. The Gender Specialist will be housed in the Program Office under the supervision of the Design Team Lead. The Program Office provides overarching strategic guidance to the Mission and programmatic advice to the Front Office and technical offices.
∎ The Gender Specialist will also expand its expertise and advice to US Government, development partners, and other relevant stakeholders. The Gender Specialist will be responsible for organizing, engaging, and moderating key gender high-level events, such as the 16 Days of Activism and other annual occurrences. The Gender Specialist will be based in the Program Office working closely with the technical offices. The Specialist will manage the Mission’s gender agenda for improved outcomes of USAID investments. The Specialist will also assume a lead role in articulating and advocating the importance of integrating gender into Mission strategies and promoting and educating the Mission and the larger development community on these concepts.

Additional Requirements:
∎ The Specialist is required to have a minimum of five (5) years of development sector experience relevant to gender and inclusive development with increasingly responsible project management, project design, and project/program development experience working on gender issues in Bangladesh.

Salary: Tk. 263709 - 480329 (Monthly)

Compensation & Other Benefits:

∎ Festival Bonus: 2
