∎ As a Student Counselor, you will play a vital role in providing guidance, support, and assistance to students in their personal, academic, and career development. You will work closely with students, parents, teachers, and school administrators to foster a positive and conducive learning environment. Your primary objective will be to help students overcome challenges, achieve their goals, and enhance their overall well-being.
Job Responsibilities:
∎ Counseling Services:
∎ Provide individual and group counseling sessions to students to address various issues such as academic performance, personal challenges, mental health concerns, and career planning.
∎ Create a safe and supportive space for students to express their thoughts, emotions, and concerns.
∎ Assess students' needs and develop customized counseling plans to assist them in achieving personal and academic success.
∎ Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other professionals to develop strategies for students with special needs or challenging circumstances.
∎ Academic Guidance:
∎ Assist students in setting realistic academic goals and developing strategies to improve their study skills, time management, and organizational abilities.
∎ Conduct academic assessments and provide recommendations for appropriate courses, programs, and extracurricular activities to support students' academic growth and development.
∎ Monitor students' academic progress and intervene when necessary to address any academic difficulties or challenges they may be facing.
∎ Career Development:
∎ Guide students in exploring career options, identifying their interests, strengths, and skills, and making informed decisions about their future career paths.
∎ Provide resources, information, and guidance on college admissions, scholarships, internships, and job opportunities.
∎ Assist students in developing resumes, cover letters, and interview skills to enhance their chances of success in the job market or college applications.
∎ Crisis Intervention:
∎ Recognize and respond to students experiencing emotional crises, trauma, or other urgent situations promptly and effectively.
∎ Collaborate with appropriate resources, such as mental health professionals or social services, to ensure students receive the necessary support during critical situations.
∎ Collaboration and Outreach:
∎ Conduct workshops, presentations, and training sessions for students, parents, and staff on relevant topics
∎ Actively participate in school committees, meetings, and professional development opportunities to stay updated on best practices in counseling and education.
Additional Requirements:
∎ Age at least 26 years
∎ Both males and females are allowed to apply
∎ Knowledge of counseling theories, techniques, and ethical standards.
∎ Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
∎ Empathy and ability to create a supportive and non-judgmental environment for students.
∎ Ability to handle confidential information with sensitivity and maintain professional boundaries.
∎ Familiarity with assessment tools and techniques for evaluating student needs and progress.
∎ Proficiency in using technology for counseling purposes.
∎ Certification or licensure as a school counselor may be required, depending on the jurisdiction.
