Responsibilities & Context
Core Duties and Responsibilities
Boiler Operation and Startup/Shutdown:
Ignite, start, run, and shut down industrial boilers, burners, and auxiliary equipment according to plant specifications.
Manage fuel supply (such as wood waste, sanding dust, biomass, or natural gas common in particle plants) and air-fuel ratios for complete and efficient combustion.
Parameter and Control Monitoring:
Continuously watch pressure gauges, temperature dials, water levels, and automated Distributed Control Systems (DCS) or PLC panels.
Maintain steady steam or thermal oil pressure required for particle dryers, refiners, and hot-press machines in the board-making process.
Water Treatment and Chemical Testing:
Test boiler feedwater regularly for parameters like pH, Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), hardness, and oxygen levels.
Dosing anti-scalants, oxygen scavengers, and performing routine blowdowns to prevent scale buildup, corrosion, and foaming.
Maintenance and Housekeeping:
Conduct routine preventive maintenance such as lubricating pumps, fans, and valves.
Clean soot, ash, and scale from burner tips, tubes, and heat exchangers.
Assist mechanical and electrical maintenance teams during major plant overhauls or shutdowns.
Safety and Regulatory Compliance:
Inspect safety valves, low-water cutoffs, pressure relief devices, and emergency shutdown systems.
Follow Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) and confined space entry safety protocols.
Maintain strict logs of operating hours, fuel consumption, water testing results, and safety checks to comply with local boiler inspectorates and environmental standards.
Coordination with Production:
Communicate directly with particle plant production supervisors to anticipate steam/heat demand shifts (e.g., during line start-ups, grade changes, or emergency halts).
