Job Context:
∎ The Arannayk Foundation (AF) was established in 2003, under a "Debt-for-Nature Swap" agreement signed between the Governments of Bangladesh (GOB) and the United States (US), within the scope of the US Tropical Forest Conservation Act, to promote forest and biodiversity conservation in Bangladesh. Since then, AF had provided financial and technical support to numerous Local NGOs/CSOs, Academic and Research institutions to implement more than a hundred projects and research initiatives to conserve forests and biodiversity and development of alternative livelihoods of the forest dependent communities to reduce the exploitation of natural resources on one hand, and on the other hand, contribute to forest and biodiversity conservation. In Partnership with the Forest Department, the USAID and the World Bank, Arannayk Foundation has been implementing several projects that are promoting co-management for conservation and restoration of forests and biodiversity and facilitating community led, ecosystem-based solutions to climate change adaptations as a specialised organization in the natural resources` landscapes of Bangladesh.
∎ We are headquartered in Dhaka while having field-level operational units stretched up to Chittagong Hill Tracts and Cox`s Bazar to provide capacity building and implementation supports to communities, local organizations and concerned forest department personnel.
∎ Arannayk Foundation has recently onboarded an exploratory project titled `Market study for wood chips, sawdust, and other wood products including furniture (demand and supply)` to provide technical assistance to the Bangladesh Forest Department. The project focuses on conducting a nationwide wood-based market study including policy and regulatory review for enhancing value chain and export. The project will identify the scales and extent of the wood-based market value chain and actors, demand and supply of the wood-based market, including wood chips and sawdust, focusing on domestic consumption, import and export, and furniture trends etc. Besides, this project will develop a survey-based database on the demand, supply and forecast for tree species that will be available to nursery owners, farmers, and the public.
∎ The key role of the position is to work in a team and coordinate various activities designed to implement the study including supervision of data collection by the enumerators, data processing and report generation, while maintaining close collaboration with the Team Leader of this project.
Job Responsibilities:
∎ Lead the project team in successfully implementing all project activities following the project agreement and agreed work plan.
∎ Review existing national legal instruments, policies, forestry regulations, taxation, and market policies pertinent to the project.
∎ Develop capacities of the Lead/Enumerators for efficient and authentic data collection from the targeted informants/entities.
∎ Field visit to support and monitor the team to ensure data quality and timeliness.
∎ Organize workshops with relevant stakeholders including SUFAL project management unit to get the methodologies approved and share the study findings as and when required.
∎ Assist the project team to ensure that all project reports and all other committed deliverables are produced, submitted, and accepted by the donor on time as per the project agreement.
∎ Keep close coordination and communication with the Team Leader and AF Management for updating the progress regularly and to get critical decisions as required.
∎ Contribute to AF's one program approach by providing inputs into other projects, project development, attending meetings, and training from time to time.
∎ Undertake any other tasks assigned by the Executive Director and Senior Program Officer from time to time.
Additional Requirements:
∎ Working experience in NGO with donor-funded projects, especially value chain studies for the Natural Resources Sub-Sector.
∎ Strong facilitation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
∎ Ability to work with a diverse team and remote communities.
∎ This position requires frequent field visits in project areas.
