∎ IFDC is recognized by the Government of the People`s Republic of Bangladesh as an International Organization. IFDC established its Asia Divisional Office in Dhaka Bangladesh and enjoying diplomatic status under the same Government declaration.
∎ IFDC is recruiting for the above project in Bangladesh.
∎ The Feed the Future Bangladesh Climate Smart Agriculture Activity funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will work in 21 Feed the Future Zone of Influence (ZOI) Districts targeting 900,000 farmers and 2,485 private sector enterprises including 10-20 big companies. The Activity`s purpose is to: facilitate farmers, firms, and public sector actors to increase the sustainable productivity and diversity of smallholder farmers through a more resilient and inclusive food and agriculture production system in Bangladesh. The goal is to sustainably improve food security and the nutritional status of the rural population, decrease the incidence and severity of poverty among the rural poor, and better adapt agriculture systems to meet the threats and challenges linked to climate change-related events, thus transforming farming systems through climate-smart agriculture (CSA). Mainstreaming women and inclusive development presents a significant opportunity. Meaningful participation of women is essential to purpose and goal achievement.
∎ The Activity will result in marked improvements in smallholder farmers` access to and use of high-quality CSA technologies and practices as well as CSA inputs, to improve the productivity of target crops such as rice, pulses, legumes, and vegetable and other suitable crops. More than 200 model CSA villages will be developed in the ZOI districts with a village farm area group seeking advice on how to set up and operate an agriculture cooperative to serve area farmers with CSA input supply and sale of harvested crops by linking farmer-members to buyers. These 200 villages will be advertised as model villages and gradually spread all over the country. Farmers` incomes will increase, bolstering food and nutrition security.
∎ The three intermediate results (IR) of the Activity are:
∎ IR 1: Increased availability of climate-resilient varieties of target crops through seed system strengthening.
∎ IR 2: Enhanced market delivery of climate-adapted innovations of agro-inputs, including seeds, practices, and climate information services.
∎ IR 3: Increased smallholder farmer application of climate-smart agriculture technologies and practices.
∎ IFDC is seeking to recruit a qualified and self-motivated national Soil Health-Fertilizer Management Specialist to fill the position, who will be part of the technical team of the above Activity, to be based in Dhaka.
∎ He/she will be responsible for devising a strategy and program to ensure the proper use of CSA technologies and ensuring balanced use of fertilizers including maintaining soil health and working with the technical team to develop and deliver effective training. Will lead sustainable land use and crop production in the development and refinement of CSA technologies and practices. He/she will assist the training officers and other related technical experts to lead farmers on the efficient use of fertilizers, ISFM, mixed/blended fertilizer, and best fertilizer farm management practices as part of the farming system and provide backstopping support on the delivery of these.

Job Responsibilities:
∎ Identify soil and fertilizer use-related problems and constraints in the project area.
∎ Identify appropriate CSA technologies and practices including constraints and prospects for solving the identified problems and constraints.
∎ Conduct an assessment of current soil and fertilizer management practices within the 21 ZOI districts' farming systems to establish focus technical areas and develop soil health management and crop nutrient management plans.
∎ Support the implementation of inception phase farming systems and crop selection assessments.
∎ Participate in needs research, review of existing materials, and design of training manual for CSA and soil health management, including core IFDC approaches such as ISFM.
∎ Support the effective roll-out of CSA training to smallholder farmers including demonstrations and field days both by public and private sector extension service providers.
∎ Ensure technical support is provided in the implementation of CSA and soil health management aspects integrated farm plans in conjunction with other technical officers.
∎ Coordinate with local communities, local government, and other projects in the identification and implementation of sustainable land management solutions in environmentally fragile landscapes.
∎ Establish local contacts and help in communication with key stakeholders, including producer's organizations, government officials/policymakers, civil society, and resource user groups including women, women groups, the youth as well as the academia and research institution.
∎ Identify potential entrepreneurs interested in providing services to farmers for better soil health and fertilizer management practices and products.
∎ Identify relevant public and private sector agencies to organize soil and fertilizer-related technology transfer programs on a contractual basis.
∎ Conduct soil analysis of CSA project locations.
∎ Recommend appropriate doses of different nutrients for Feed the Future Zone f Influence districts.
∎ Conduct field trials of fertilizer-related CSA technologies along with GOB research institutes in pulses, oilseeds, and horticultural crops including rice.
∎ Assist capacity building specialists and other related specialists in conducting training programs and work as a resource person on soil and fertilizer-related issues to both public and private sector agencies, who will then train the farmers.
∎ Liaise with research and educational institutes for appropriate doses of nutrients in the farmer's field.
∎ Prepare information and reports needed by COP for quarterly, annual, and other needed reports.
∎ Any other work to be assigned by the COP.
∎ The Soil Health-Fertilizer Management Specialist is supervised by and reports Deputy Chief of Party. She/ he works in close collaboration with project colleagues, other IFDC staff and colleagues from other consortium members.

∎ Demonstrated experience of more than 7 years in transferring knowledge and capacity-building support to smallholder farmers on climate-smart agriculture, sustainable land management, fertilizer/nutrient management, and integrated farm planning and farming systems approaches.
∎ Experience with USAID and other donor-funded projects.
∎ Demonstrated skills in effectively collaborating with local governments, research institutions, development partner projects, local organizations, private companies, and other partners.
∎ Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally in small audience and large audience settings.
∎ Team player, at ease in a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary environment. Ability to interact effectively with a geographically dispersed multicultural team composed of international and national personnel.
∎ Fluency in written and spoken English is required, proficiency in multiple local languages is an asset.

Compensation & Other Benefits:
∎ The Soil Health-Fertilizer Management Specialist is a national position with a duty station in the IFDC's main project office in Dhaka.
∎ The position requires intensive field travel (up to 50% of the time) in the target ZOI districts in Bangladesh. This position may require international travel depending on the need.
